Team Members

Invite people to an Ip2Geo project, what owners, admins and viewers can do, and the rules for roles and removing members.

Every project has members. The account that creates a project is its owner, and the owner and admins invite others as admins or viewers, from the project’s Team page or with ip2geo members in the CLI.

Viewers see a project’s keys but not their secrets: a secret key converts on the project’s quota, so only the owner and admins can copy one.

Invitations

An owner or an admin invites someone by email address, as an admin or a viewer. The invitation email carries a link that is valid for 3 days; resending the invitation sends a new link.

Only an account with the address the invitation was sent to can accept it. Someone without an account signs up with that address first, with Google, GitHub or an email code, and then opens the link. Accepting makes the project their current one.

A project holds up to 100 members, pending invitations included. An address that is already a member, or already invited, cannot be invited again.

Changing roles and removing members

The owner and admins can make a member an admin or a viewer, remove a member, or withdraw an invitation. A few things never change:

  • A project has one owner, the account that created it. The owner’s role cannot be changed, nobody else can be made an owner, and the owner cannot be removed.
  • Nobody removes themselves. To step out of a project, leave it from its settings or with ip2geo projects leave. The owner cannot leave their own project, only delete it.
  • A member who is removed loses access at once. If it was their current project, they are moved to another one of theirs.

From the command line

ip2geo members resend teammate@example.com
ip2geo members remove teammate@example.com
ip2geo invites accept <link from the email>
