Signing In

Sign in to Ip2Geo with Google, GitHub or a 6-digit code sent by email, and the rules every sign-in code follows.

You sign in to the Ip2Geo dashboard with Google, with GitHub, or with a 6-digit code sent to your email address. Each of them opens the account of that email address, and the first sign-in creates the account, with its first project.

Sign-in codes

When you sign in with your email address, Ip2Geo emails you a 6-digit code. Each code:

  • only signs in the address it was sent to. Capital letters make no difference: You@Example.com and you@example.com are the same address.
  • expires 10 minutes after it was sent.
  • takes 5 tries. After the fifth wrong try the code is used up, and you request a new one.
  • signs you in once.

Requesting a new code cancels the one sent before it. An address can be sent one code a minute, and 5 codes an hour.

If a code does not arrive, look in your spam folder before requesting another one: every request counts toward the 5 codes an hour.

From the command line

The CLI signs in with the same codes, and the same rules apply:

Bash
ip2geo login

On a server or in CI, where there is no terminal to type the code into, sign in in two steps: ip2geo login --email you@example.com sends the code, and ip2geo login --email you@example.com --code 123456 finishes. Most automation is simpler with a secret key.
